It appears to raise the treble information relative to midrange and bass, and also, makes the distinctions between sounds much sharper. For those hard of hearing, who usually have good bass/midrange hearing but rolled off treble, this will be a revelation. No more annoying your neighbors because you have to blast the TV in order to understand the voices. Also the TV does seem to play closed captions about as well as it can.

My aunt is using closed captions on cable TV and standard DVD playback and it works great. We had trouble using CC on a new upscaling DVD player using HDMI but that turns out to be a problem with the HDMI specification; HDMI relies on the source to decode CC and put the words on the screen, whereas older cable formats and resolutions like composite carry the CC signal distinct from the picture to the TV for decoding. This appears to be a major step back but it's not the fault of the TV. If you Google "cc dvd hdmi" you will find a LOT of conversation on the net about this problem. No one seems to have a solution.

I have done a double take at times because it appears so life like! We love this tv and are so happy when we get a chance to relax and watch it (not often enough!). Wall hook up was a breeze and it has enough HDMI inputs to make it even easier. I wouldn't recommend the Samsung Blu Ray player though if you are running everything thru a receiver. Samsung's "Any net" gets confused about what you are trying to do. Or at least the Universal remote doesn't recognize that the tv is in control of the Blu Ray player. (Or maybe it's me who gets confused on what it is trying to do!) Anyway, I can't imagine any other tv delivering a better picture than this one. You will enjoy it immensely!

Reviews Samsung LN40B630 1080 LCD HDTV

My expectations of the new Samsung were that it would perform much like the Sony. I could not have been more wrong. The B630 was like viewing another huge leap in a television experience, while the Sony seemed to be of past technology. The depth and breadth of Samsung's visual color tones are astounding and mesmerizing. A perfect example of that came from viewing scenes of the Caribbean Sea. The Sony could not match the Samsung's Wide Color Enhancer 3 processor with its three dimensional qualities and vibrant tones of turquoise, sea green, cobalt blue, coral pink and white sand clearly seen under the sea. It literally was like being there.

The Samsung's dynamic contrast of 80,000-1 was visibly superior to the Sony's 50,000-1 and convinced me that Samsung's contrast rating was more than a marketing numbers game. The viewing angle of the Sony was horrific when moving away from center by seeing flesh tones morph into green. Samsung's viewing angle was far better by maintaining the proper color tones, but it did lose contrast and brightness. Of course, a slight turn of its swivel base helped to alleviate Samsung's viewing angle issue.

The downside to Samsung's advanced technology was that every movie appeared as video and lost its magical cinema quality. Sony was superior in dealing with this issue. To address that problem, the backlight and contrast settings have to be toned down to soften the picture and to preserve a film's attributes. Most importantly, an adjustment to the 120 Hz Motion Plus feature must be done in order to keep movies from appearing surreal. While some recommend turning the 120 Hz off, I found video blurring far too annoying and placed the Auto Motion Plus to a custom setting of 6 for blur and judder reduction. That seemed like a good compromise without losing much of the film's realistic movement. Experiment with every adjustment to find your best settings and calibration instructions are easily found on [...]. It all came together beautifully for me and hopefully this information can be helpful to you.

I do have to agree with other reviewers regarding the "Auto Motion" settings producing images that are almost surreal. I have found that setting this on the middle setting produces the best results for me, but I have not played much with the custom adjustment mode yet, so I will hold off on a final review until I have had more time to tweak.

But enough about that, lets take a look at the Samsung LN46B530 shall we?
PRICE WAS AWESOME, Under $850 for a 46" 1080p Samsung?? Where do I sign?!
Out of the box impression is quite normal, packaging is plentiful and the TV is well protected for shipping. The panel itself is NON-REFLECTIVE which is great. For those of you who may not have thought about it, most HDTV's are insanely polished and look great in the store, however when you get home what happens is that window or lamp is making a glare in the middle or half the screen. Beleive me, it may not be that big of a deal at first, but after a while day after day after day it really becomes annoying.

One thing I did notice is the power cord that comes with the TV is NOT very long, maybe 5.5 - 6ft tops. No worries, all you have to do if you need a longer power cord is go here:
Belkin 12ft AC Replacement Power Cord (AC Male to AC Female) And it will work just fine.

This TV does more with less. It weighs only about 40 pounds plus another 10 pounds for the stand. Compare that with the older Samsung 950 model of the same size which weighs 70 pounds. The elegant stand allows for easy rotation. The TV is only a little over one inch thick! Power consumption has been measured by reviewers at about 105 watts. The 950 model comes in at 180 watts.

The picture is great. The contrast ratio, rated at 3,000,000 to 1, exceeds that of older LCD TVs. The black areas are dark and the picture has an almost 3D quality. There are four preset picture options. I chose the "normal" setting. The next higher setting, "standard", makes infield grass look almost dayglow. I do not think that there is a need to have any further adjustment done on the picture. However, there is an automatic dimming of the overall brightness for dark scenes. For instance, when the credits of a movie run against a black background the lettering becomes dimmer. This has no effect on sports, but does effect dark movie scenes.

The screen surface does reduce reflections but does not eliminate them entirely. The black frame is shiny and does also reflect some light. Rotating the screen to the best angle helps.

The remote provides choices for four picture size variations. I use "16:9" for the HD format or "wide" to make the non-HD, 4:3, video fill the screen. That loses some of the 4:3 picture at the top and bottom edges, but the picture quality is still good.

The sound also has four preset choices. Although, the internal speakers are not bad, I decided to use my sound system for the audio. The TV has an audio output connection, but the TV remote volume control only allows variation in the sound level for the internal speakers. The audio output stays at a constant level. I got around this by taking the audio from my cable box directly to my sound system and controlling the level with the cable remote. This works.

I can't say much about the input options. I bought a Samsung Blu-ray player at the same time I got the TV and I got an HDMI cable to hook up between the two devices. It "just worked." The Samsung TV / Blu-ray player seem to be a good match. When I put in a DVD or Blu-ray disc, the TV turns on automatically and switches to the correct HDMI input. But otherwise I don't have any devices plugged into this TV yet. I don't have cable or satellite or a video game system.

I would suggest that anyone who buys this TV should try to put the TV in a room without any windows or bright lights facing it. I bought this TV for my bedroom and it sits about 12 feet directly in front of my bedroom window. Fortunately the window is on the backside of the house and has a thick blind over it, otherwise I think the reflection from the window would be overwhelming during the day.

The TV is certainly bright and vibrant enough to watch in daylight conditions, that's not the issue. The issue is the amount of reflection on the TV screen. During the day, I can see the reflection from the edge of my window. It's fairly subtle and I can easily address this by buying a decorative curtain to place over my window, but it is something that I think is worth pointing out. If you know you're going to have your TV in front of a big window, it could be a major distraction if you can't cover the window properly.

The display has a decent number of inputs, especially considering its size. Four HDMI, a component, and a VGA. The lack of a dedicated DVI was surprising, but the first HDMI port doubles as a DVI with a converter (all ports will work with HDPC compliant DVI outputs, but only the first port can handle a standard DVI-I/DVI-D signal from a non-HDPC source).

A word about signal range - this display is very strict when it comes to valid source. A receiver that gave me perfect performance at 1080p with my Aquos produces an invalid signal error with this display. A cheaper HDMI cable I was using for my PS3 produced nothing but static on the screen. I had to go get an official PS3 cable to get a correct 1080p display. My ZuneHD dock will NOT display at 720p, regardless of what I've tried. It works fine on other displays, but the Samsung won't sync the signal. Very frustrating.

The extra features of the set may appeal to some, but I have no need for a terribly slow media streming service built into my set. Any dedicated media streaming station or game console is going to outperform the in-set features for DivX playback. The widgets were just a bad idea. I have a 50Mbps internet connection and they still take forever to load. They aren't really useful and 'typing' with the remote is an exercise in self loathing.

Aesthetically, the set is incredible. The ultra-thin bezel is a thing of beauty. Glossy in the right places and stylish. You will most likely want to turn off the blue LED on the front of the set though, as it glows so bright it is a major distraction in low light situations. This is easily accomplished through the setup menu.

First of all I am a long time user of Tivo. Mine was the standard digital 2 drive version so I decided to upgrade and order the new XL HD tivo. In the week while I waited for it's delivery, I was watching my usual cable digital channels on this new tv. It's IMPORTANT to note that the digital picture is just stunning on this tv... without the HD channels. Shows look oddly different, like many yrs ago when they switched to video taping our nightly comedy shows instead of filming them.... and I remember how odd the picture looked in video.. it was unusually clear and realistic... Well I'm experiencing that again with this new tv.. Just watching Two and a Half Men, the new picture clarity baffles and stuns me! it's like watching a whole new program! and digital commercials, I actually find myself rewinding to watch them! it's just odd !!

I have FIOS HD TV hooked up and an upconverting DVD player via HDMI ports. The picture looks great right out of the box. I set it to "movie" setting since I leave the room darker. The "dynamic" setting is too bright, but might be ok in a very bright room. The "standard" picture is fine. I highly recommend this TV if you are using the HDMI inputs. The picture leaves something to be desired if you are using the coax input or RCA inputs. Quite honestly, stick to a good old fashioned CRT if you are using analogue connections.
I compared this TV to several others, I couldn't tell the difference in picture quality between it and ones priced up to $300 more. I don't think 1080P is worth the extra money for a 26" TV. Watching fast action like a hockey game, there can be some motion issues, but since it is only a 60 Hz TV, that is expected. The 120 Hz would show a slight improvement, but it isn't bad enough of a distraction to bother me. A lot of people wouldn't even notice, but some would. Again, it is minor.
I'm very happy with the picture quality in general, as long as it is a digital input, and especially high def. The colors are accurate and the blacks are nice and dark. Dark scenes do not get blurred together, you can see the difference in black levels easily.

This TV has a great picture from the front easily the best in the 26" market. I searched for a long time and compared it to Sony and LG. I was considering Sony's new KDL-26L5000 but this Samsung has double the contrast ratio.

Unfortunately the only negative is also the deal killer for me and that is the side viewing angle. I think the Sony did better in this area but not enough to warrant it over this samsung. Ultimately I decided to go with the Samsung LN32B650 for the bedroom over this 26" Samsung as it has a better vewing angle, info link, 1080P, LAN port, and you can use the USB to actually view things and not just for service/firmware upgrades. Granted the LN32B650 is double the price :)

If you are looking for a LCD for the bedroom or kitchen where you plan to watch it head on and not the side then this is it. If you are insistent on a 26" TV again, this is the best one out there right now. The fact is, if you want a TV with all the current bells and whistles, 32 inches is the smallest size you can find it in.

Shipping was totally satisfactory and the set and its carton arrived in perfect condition. I believe I trust the shipping from Amazon to be at least as careful as the regular shipping to any retail store, which I have observed from time to time as being the probable cause of "factory defects"

Excellent picture. Well designed connections. Great flexibility in image sources. Internet and networking is fantastic, I can stream movies and music from internet and from other PCs on my home network. On screen controls and menu navigation requires some patience - with great flexibility comes some cost. Interconnection between Samsung TV and Samsung Blu-Ray is very good. Remote for each component controls entire system. One failing - when internal TV speakers are turned off, remotes for volume control do not work. I have a different brand receiver/amp and have to use a separate remote. Solution - update my audio system to a Samsung.

Model has 60 and 120 hz screen refresh. Picture is so sharp that I don't believe that I can tell the difference. My son (in film production) insists that I must use 24 fps refresh rate to watch movies since all film is 24 fps. So the extra money I paid for the 120 hz screen refresh for sharper high speed images (sports) is probably wasted. Essentially, the TV "invents" or extrapolates the extra frames from 24 fps (or 30 fps fr almost all video) to the higher screen refresh. At 60 there is essentially 1 "extra" frame, at 120 there are 4 "extra" frames invented by the screen refresh. I can see a difference between 24 and 60.

I had a hard time deciding between this model and the Panosonic G10 50" plasma (G10 was less $ but picture quality was lower in my opinion but not by much. If cost is a primary driver then I would go with the G10 and save the dollars. My reasoning rulled out LEDs that are to bleading edge from a cost standpoint, 240 hz was the same and I could see no differnece in quality, and from what I could see neither had a better picture at all but just cost more. I did not need the thin panel an LCD provides I know in the near future they will be the standard, but too much price difference today. This Samsung has the best picture of any TV in the store bottom line, looking at them all side by side this model always had the best picture by a wide margin. That includes the LED, 240 hz models and even ones that cost 2x as much or more.

I did consider the 52" version LN52B630 for around $1289 around Christmas, but Amazon was out stock and I did want to take advantage of the special financing. When I compared the specification between the LN55B650 and LN52B630, most fo features were similar except for the speakers and media peripherals. I would recommend that you take sometime and go to a local retailer to see the picture quality. I did learn that what you see is not always what you get since picture settings on models can vary and the lighting in your home can impact the overall picture quality you will experience.

Although there is a plethora of settings, I have tweaked the TV very little. I have not seen the need to greatly modify the settings, but there is a wealth of information on the internet for those that choose to do so. Streaming content through a LAN wire has been surprisingly good with Netflix. I haven't tried the wireless adapter that Samsung sells, so I can not comment on streaming content wirelessly. For anyone with Comcast (I live in northern middle Tennessee as a point of reference), tv viewing has been through a Comcast HD-DVR cable box with picture quality ranging from excellent (HD channels) to average (standard def channels). Depending on strength of signal, there can be slight picture degradation at times, but this is a Comcast issue not the LN46B750. Another positive is the number of component connections available on this TV. Check Samsung's website for a good picture of the various connections to assist you in planning your home theater set-up or incorporating your existing components. Planning ahead also will help you determine your cable needs prior to set-up. Better to buy cables at a great price on Amazon instead of getting hosed at BB.

As an engineer I do a lot of research before purchasing electronics and ended up with this TV because of reviewer comments from multiple sources and reading the spec sheets. The Samsung PN58B550 58-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV is an all-around solid buy that won't disappoint you when you weigh price against picture quality and reliability. Bells and whistles such as Internet TV are good for the marketing department but often go unused or unrealized because of the total system overhead in terms of learning to use it, computer system interface requirements and the performance uncertainties due to a lack of enough industry standards to ensure compatibility across component brands.

Also, not every home can provide the bandwidth necessary to get a high quality video and audio presentation, which is my case. So, I chose this particular TV because I'm not willing to iron out all of the wrinkles associated with higher end TVs that, although providing slightly better picture quality and more features, are not what I want now (maybe later when my ISP upgrades the bandwidth and I have more time to deal with configuring the system). The 58B550 picture is beautiful in my dimly lit theater and there is a reasonable expectation that it will work well when I upgrade my wireless Internet to 80211n spec although I haven't checked the blogs yet for other peoples' experiences.

I am not a guru but I did do some searching on the different types of units, plasma, lcd, led. Everything I saw implied that plasma while more expensive provided a better picture. Frankly the plasma appeared to be out of our price range but then Amazon dropped the price to a point where it was only $100 more than a Samsung LED. Boy are we glad. This unit is great. Delivery was very speedy. The guys who brought it to the door set it up and then cleaned it up.

First, off. My set up is DirecTV HD enabled, PS3 for watching movies (Blu-Ray, Netflix streamed) and plating video games.

I must agree with quite a few people that you can tell the unevenness of the lighting, but this is only noticeable when the screen is absolutely dark such in the case of switching to a different input. I have yet to notice it when watching a football game or movie in HD.
Secondly, the 240 Hz feature can give your movies that "Masterpiece Theater on PBS" look and feel. It's as if you are watching those old soaps on TV. Picture is so clear and fast movement is so well reproduced you can tell the movie is fake. It is difficult to suspend reality. My family wasn't too thrilled about it so I turned off the 240 Hz. Movies are back to looking the way it was meant to be seen...fake, but with all the clarity of 1080p. However, sports benefit from the 240Hx feature.

The Pilot driver provided the scheduled delivery, assembled the stand, and tested the TV screen. While he was late by several hours, which was beyond his control, he called several times giving us an update on his status; very courteous and polite.
This Samsung is light as a feather compared to the Sony behemoth. I have been waiting years for the LCDs to come down to my price range and I'm glad I waited. A excellent product! this TV is perfect for homes with small to medium living spaces. I have a living room that is roughly 15 by 15 feet, and this accompanies the room perfectly. Even after I set it up, I thought to myself that 42 inches would have been a bit too overpowering. Anyways, this TV puts my old 26 inch Westinghouse to shame. Although...I think almost any TV blows away Westinghouse television sets.

Anyways, right off the bat this TV is beautiful. It lacks the 120Hz processing, but in my own personal opinion, the only time 120Hz is beneficial is if you are watching sports or documentaries (Speaking of Documentaries, Planet Earth looks absolutely incredible on this TV regardless of the 120hz).

I could alter the cabinet where it sits. Amazon delivery was within one hour of the promised time two weeks later. And that is ON TIME in New York City on a rainy day during the Christmas season. Perfect. I set it up on the stand easily, plugged in the HDMI cable from my set top HD cable box, plugged in the power cord, plugged in the component video and audio in cables from my old DVD player, turned it on, picked the Source on the remote- and IT WORKS. I haven't cracked open the manual or done anything with any set up controls- why bother when the picture and sound are so astoundingly good. I am sure that I can do some neat things with the set up alternatives, but it doesn't seem necessary to me. My wife and I can barely believe we are watching broad cast HDTV. The movies look like live performances and are crystal clear with perfect color.
I recently hooked up a new Blu-Ray DVD through the unit with an HDMI cable and that is fantastic also.

Best reasons to buy this TV:
1) First and foremost this TV has AMAZING picture quality when set correctly.
2) Superb contrast! Deeply detailed blacks (Caveat) and clear bright whites = AMAZING PQ!
3) 120hz processing! I know some have said it's a gimmick, but I guarantee you I won't ever buy another TV without it. What you will find is that some programming is better seen with it on while some are better seen without it and still others will be better half half, but that will be up to you to decide. 120hz processing has a 3D effect that it is awe inspiring when seen with select HD programming. When you have it on I can't think of any other way to describe it other than what others have called "hyper real." It's a must have in my book.
4) Clean & crisp as a computer monitor but ONLY through HDMI @ 1080P
5) Very sleek design. The red is not very noticeable and even when it is it still looks great.
6) You can upgrade your firmware via USB drive and Samsung just released a new one NOV.

We love the sleek black design and easy to swivel stand. Putting it together was a breeze and it was working within 10 minutes.

We have a set in Samsung's Touch of Red line which has a constant blue light under the center of the tv that could be annoying - this set has the same blue light when it first turns on and off and that's it. Yeah. This tv has a swivel stand with fluid movement and works great! I can now watch tv from the kitchen with just a slight push to get the perfect angle for viewing. The picture is super crisp and clear with the HD cable box provided at an extra cost by my cable provider and great viewing even without the HD cable service.

We had checked this particular HDTV out locally by comparing its picture and features. It far outshined the others. Our final decision was to purchase it from Amazon as Amazon had the best price around and we were already familiar with Amazon's fine shipping procedures.

We considered a Vizio based on great reviews, cheap prices and it being touted as the #1 seller of flat screens but found that the quality was not as good. I also like the amount of control Samsung provides over the tv settings. Another huge plus is the Samsung service, they stand behind their brand and their customer service is outstanding. I love getting a live person to help with any issue or questions. I dare you to find that with other brands.

I initially planned to buy new LED-LCD model but the more homework I did, I realized Plasma was the best bet. If you are new to this and not a believer in Plasma, do your homework, and you will come out a believer. Plasma has valid issues of burn-in, image retention, long term brightness but new models have adequately overcome these issues as long as you take care of the TV. LED - LCD esp. samsung models have legitimate issues of not properly displaying color throughout the TV. GO look at the colors in the corner on a white screen/black screen. It looks like crap (displays the opposite color) and once you notice, you can't not notice it. Why spend 2500 on a TV that you know has a problem. There is no denying it. If I had to guess, in a few years LED LCD hybrid models won't be around. I think they are a crappy design - dont believe the media hype.

I stood next to this TV in two different best buys and listened for a buzz as good as I could. They buzzed but from what I could tell it was faint. I've had my TV setup for four days now. It buzzes at about the same level. I have YET to notice it while listening to it - even on mute - I can't hear it from 8 - 10 feet away - only when I put my ear on the TV (And I dont watch TV doing that). As someone else wrote, my comcast HD Dvr box is louder, so is my Dell home computer. For me the buzzing is not a legitimate issue. And the heat isn't an issue either. Many home devices get way hotter than this TV including the comcast box, blu ray player, PS3, etc...

Good news so far - picture is phenomenal. I've watched cable, movies, blu ray movies, streaming netflix, sports. Been impressed with all of it. Menu is easy to use and operate. Setup is simple. Connected the TV to the internet using a powerline ethernet adapter. Worked fine - again easy to use. It uses yahoo, flickr, and supports DLNA use. Have a comcast box and a HTIB (LG LHB953) connected to it. Everything was easy to connect and setup.

I decided to consider options. My satellite installer stated that Samsung & Sony were considered to be two of the highest rated HD t.v.'s.
I have nothing but highest praise for my Samsung! Extremely sharp color,focus, and excellent surround sound!

The price Amazon is selling it for is too low to resist so I ordered it and it arrived well before it was promised so again Amazon is great. However the remote is defective. I called Samsung customer service and they guided me through resetting it but is still didn't work. So they gave me 2 choices - wait 7-14 days for a replacement or send the TV back. Can you believe they would want me to send the TV back rather than send the remote more quickly?
So I am unable to rate the TV, others think it's great, and I've seen them in other locations where they do have great pictures but what good it that if a defective remote keeps me from even being able to set-up the TV.

Reviews Samsung PN42B450 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV

This is our first big screen HD TV. We have owned it for 5 months. It is in our living room hooked up to a Samsung 5.1 surround sound DVD player with 1080p upconversion. And I have to say, even though this TV is "only" 720p, the picture looks as good as or better than most other 1080p TVs. I don't know if that is because it is a plasma or just Samsung quality coming through. One of my best friends kept commenting that he could not understand why I bought a 42" TV that was only 720p. When I showed him the picture quality he understood. The fact that I paid $699 for it blew him out of the water. Basically, if you are someone that likes to brag about having 1080p then this TV is not for you. But if your someone that wants 1080p picture quality at a 720p price, then this tv is for you. I believe that 1080p is only useful on 46" or bigger TVs. Anything smaller and you will be hard pressed to see a difference.

Surprisingly though, while playing 1080p content from my computer connected via DVI-HDMI cabling, I can still see a difference compared to 720p content, even though the native resolution on this TV is only 1024x768. As a side note, playing any content via a computer with a good graphics card yields much better quality compared to most DVD players, tuning boxes, or other converting devices since you first have options to change resolution and refresh rate at your finger tips, and second the hardware and software used to display the content is much more capable.

Over-all, the only problem I had with the TV was the low native resolution. For the price and quality, I couldn't really complain. But since I've been using it, I've learned even that wasn't a downside.

The primary features involved in calibration are, brightness,contrast,sharpness,color and hue.

Brightness:
This controls the depth of the blackness.Slot in a DVD movie into your DVD player and look for a night scene with someone wearing a black suit.Adjust the brightness control until you can make out clearly the edges of the suit lapel and the breast pocket of the black suit.

Contrast:
Controls the white. Look for a scene of someone wearing a white shirt.Adjust the contrast control until you can make out clearly the white buttons on the white shirt.

Sharpness:
Slot in a sports DVD e.g football,athletes meet, lawn tennis match etc.Look for a scene with line markings.Play with the adjust control from minimum to maximum and watch the line markings as you do so, the lines will have doubles or ghost images.Adjust the control slowly until the double or triple lines become one line or the ghost images of the line dissappears, leaving you with a single line.

Color:
Hopefully, you are not color blind.If you are,ask a friend to help you with this adjustment.This adjustment depends on what you appreciate of skin tone.Focus on the color of the skin of the actors, usually the face.Play with the control up and down and see how the skin color changes.Adjust the control more slowly until you get a match close to what the person's color would look like to you,were the person standing close to you.Hopefully, you are not in the habit of looking for aliens or martians.

These tips are to help you make a decision between the best available HDTV to date.And if you are like me who was debating between a CCRT LCD OR LED LCD, I hope that I have provided sufficient reasons why I went for a CCRT LCD rather than a LED LCD for now. I might upgrade to a LED TV in five years from now.

However, I shall add that the future of HDTV will be either LED or OLED.The technology on LED/OLED TV has not been perfected and will not be until 3 to 5 years down the road.So, why did I go for a CCRT LCD TV rather than for a LED TV?
Very simple.It is the best LCD in the market as of today Sept14th,2009 and might be for a long time to come.A point supported by both professional reviewers and users.

The Samsung B750 beats the LED Sony XBR8 (too pricey) and Samsung B8000 (uneven pixation). It compares very well with black scenes in both LED TVs, the white may not be as white as the LED TVs, but IT does not give the unnatural blue hue the LED TVs add to white color, perhaps that is why they seem to produce a whiter white.Just like the LED tv, the Samsung LN52B750 does not produce harsh pictures nor are the pictures scrabby.

The B750 has a practical wider viewing angle than both LED TVs mentioned above. It also has a better uniformity of colours.Do not get me wrong the LED TVs give very impressive pictures but since they are still in what I shall call beta stages, the prices on them are rather high for their current performances compared to what they are capable of doing.Just Like when Plasmas came out some years back, they were pricey, average cost was $4000.00 for the low end models.Inspite of their high prices then, yesterday's Plasmas in terms of performance are not as good as today's Plasmas which cost far less. They went through a period of fine tuning during which time their prices came down.Could you imagine buying a 46in Plasma for $900:00 in 2004.Yet today you could get one for that amount with little issue of burn in and better performance. A similar scenario will be played out with the LED TVs of today. So while waiting for LED technology to be perfected, it makes reasonable sense to buy an excellent TV at a "reasonable cost" to enjoy for the next 5 or so many years before the LED TVs get perfected or near "perfection".

To be honest, as much as Samsung tried to eliminate glare, this TV does have a minimum of glare compared to older Samsung LCDs but it is very minimal.If you have not noticed the glare on your laptop, desktop or your old CRT tv, then you will not be bothered by glare on this TV with the improved anti-glare technology.

If you are an enthusiast of Nature,fast action movies or sports, this is the TV for you. This TV shows leaves in a tree distinctively not just a bunch or cluster of green like most TVs do.You see clearly the individual droplets of water, as a wave breaks not just a splash of whitishblue.With fast movies or sports, no blurr or motion artifacts are seen.Colors are naturally vivid.No leaking of colors.

Do you need calibration? Yes, you do. Out of the box, the picture it gives is very impressive.Bear in mind that the manufacturers do not know anything about your living room light condition but they have a fairly good knowledge of what the light condition of a retailer's electronic dept is like.An since, the manufacturers do not know which of their TVs will be displayed by a particular retailer, they adjust the settings on all of their TVs coming out of the production line to meet the light conditions of a retailer which most time is a very bright light condition.They want their TV to look brighter,sharper and more crisp than their competitors'. This might mean less than an optimal picture quality for your room and more energy cost for you. Calibration has also been touted to prolong the life of the pixels.So if you can afford the 2 grand on this TV why can't you pick up a calibrating disc for $30.00 or less, to get an optimal performance, lower energy cost and prolong the life span of your TV?

If you decide to calibrate your TV,it is adviced to let your new TV break in, like a new car before making the adjustment.Some suggest as few as 24 hrs of regular TV watching others have suggested 1 month.I calibrated mine after 45 hrs of regular TV watching.The difference in picture quality after calibration is like NIGHT and DAY.

I am agreeing with other reviewers that this is an excellent product with only two attributes that were not as expected:
- Touch of color really is only a "touch". Without light shining directly on it the frame looks completely black
- Sound quality is poor. The right speaker has a tendency to ring at certain frequency even at low volume.

Picture quality is excellent; the TV set is not too heavy and looks good.

Got this instead of the A550, which was well reviewed but criticized for its speakers. This one both looks great and sounds good as well. It's sound is nothing compared to my theater system, but I have no complaints at all on it. Picture is beautiful.

The Samsung LN73B550 is a beautiful TV for an affordable price. If you're in the market for a LCD less than 40" then I would highly recommend this one. The colors are sharp and very crisp. Setup out of the box was extremely easy. My only quibble might be the sound quality, but I think that may be due to it sitting in an enclosed entertainment center. Samsung has become a leader in the LCD market for a reason and this TV is a testament to that fact.

The only thing you will be disappointed in is this: once you experience high-def 58" TV, you will really think that the standard def that is still the standard on most TV stations really looks bad. I understand that you can tweak this and make it better, but I haven't had the time or interest, since I don't watch much TV, the little I do watch is usually available in high-def and I bought this rig to watch high def sports and movies (both of which it excells at).

One tip: Samsung makes an amazing line of Blu Ray players that link automatically to the TV and really work great. They do such a great job of upconverting standard DVDs to 1080 high def that it is really hard to tell if you have a blu ray or a DVD in the player. I really like my "all Samsung" system--it really coordinates nicely and you can actually download all the movies you want from NetFlix for $9.95 per month (although the quality is somewhere between standard def TV and DVD--good enough, but not great--I understand that this is a NetFlix issue and they are working on it, and that my Samsung equipment will display the better quality when it becomes available).

I tortured myself for months, researching everything available, reading hours worth of blogs and threads, etc. Finally pulled the trigger on this one and got it from Amazon for an amazing price, including delivery, no sales tax. About $600 less than the big box store, when you take into account delivery charges and sales tax. Delivery was great, picture is great, energy consumption is pretty low (check it out on Crutchfield if you don't believe me) and the heat level is low for a plasma.

A word about "buzzing." If you read all the blogs, and this information is gleaned from about 30 hours of blog and thread following, it becomes apparent that about 5-10% of the sets sold have a very loud, annoying, buzzing problem--this is not due to extra sensitivity on the part of buyers, it is a real problem. This is actually a low percentage, other sets from Samsung and other makers have a higher percentage, it is a plasma issue, and the 58B560 is better than most. It is also apparent that there is absolutely nothing you can do if you get a "buzzer." People report that they call Samsung on the warranty, and Samsung does all kinds of things, including replacing the panel, and nothing ever works. The only real fix is that you should simply keep the box, and if you get a buzzer (you will find out right away--all of the reports indicate that a set either buzzes in the first week, or doesn't buzz at all) call Amazon and be persistant until they agree to exchange the unit. There is no other fix. That is why you want to buy from Amazon. In my case, I waited until Amazon itself had the better price to buy the unit (rather than one of its affiliates) since I was totally paranoid about the buzzing issue and I know that Amazon itself is easier to deal with than anyone else.

People say that the rate of buzzing increases with altitude in plasmas and that you should not even buy one if you live at altitude. It appears that this is not the case with the 58B560, a set may or may not buzz, but it appears that this is strictly related to which set you get and not your altitude. I live at 5,650 feet and mine is absolutely free of buzz.

Therefore, be aware of the situation, but don't let it discourage you from buying this excellent TV, just be sure to buy your set from Amazon or another retailer that guarantees that you can return a "buzzer" and be sure to keep your box and all packing material for at least a few weeks.

I am a big sports fan and so far I have watched the NBA playoffs, the Indy 500, some baseball, and a little NFL Network and there is absolutely no blur or distortion in fast action sports. HD movies have also been spectacular with this set. The built in speakers sound fine, but I have them turned off because I run audio through a Home Theater system (single HDMI cable from my Pioneer 1019 receiver).

The black trim around the screen is shiny black but the screen is matte finish so if you have glare issues like I do, this TV is great. The sound quality is just typical TV speaker quality; very little bass. I bought a set of Sony Shelf speakers on this site for $49.00 and they sound awesome (hooked up through a tuner). All my electronics integrated perfectly with this TV. You will be amazed at the quality of this TV and will ponder how you got such a great TV for the price.

This Samsung TV is excellent. The only drawback would be that it is not 120 Hz but my husband and myself can't tell the difference. We had been shopping around and this was a great deal.

CEVA showed up with it yesterday. The heavy cardboard box had an 18" gash/tear in it and my heart sank. They removed the box and I noticed the screen was supported about 8" from the cardboard and there were no signs that whatever caused the gash had touched anything. We quickly plugged it into the wall and ran it thru some of the built-in menus. Relief - everything worked fine. With the 30-day return guarantee there was nothing more to worry about.

The previous day Amazon had delivered a new Onkyo receiver to replace my older Yamaha. I had already disconnected the Yamaha and wired all the components and speakers to this new receiver (to take advantage of its HDMI capabilities). It now only took a couple hours to make the final connections with the receiver, cable sysem, over-the-air antenna, HTPC and network.

Every single system worked perfectly, even though it sometimes took a few minutes to discover the correct input settings on each device to get everything communicating. The biggest surprise was the quality of the picture. After reading everything I could find on various forums I expected to have some tweaking to do before obtaining the best images. While critically inspecting the imagery for each type of input I could not see a need to adjust anything! Just for experimentation I did make a few selections of alternate settings, but always wound up returning to the original. I'll likely use an Avia program to verify adjustments later, but can't imagine any improvement.

The "halo effect" feature on the upper and lower bezel was obvious (albeit faint) to see, but it was not distracting. In fact, if there were a switch available to turn it on and off, I'd still leave it on - it's neat! The red bezel highlighting (the TOC) is so subtle that it is nearly invisible. If I didn't know it was there I'd likely not have even noticed it. Perhaps it would be more visible in a room with bright daylighting?

Another neat feature is the touch sensitive controls on the lower right bezel. They are invisible until you touch the area, causing them to temporarily sequentially illuminate. I haven't fully explored this feature yet.

Another nice feature was discovering that I could hook up the computer to HDMI connection #2 and play computer games without any special adjustments. There was no lag or any problem except that I'll need to upgrade the computer's video card in order to take the display all the way up to its full resolution. Nevertheless, the Samsung must have been upscaling the image since it was extremely sharp. (Same thing with the 480i DVDs we played on it - very sharp). When not in use we intend to leave the computer hooked up so the Samsung will continuously display it's screensaver which cross-fades family photos like a huge digital picture frame.

The Samsung has a TOSLINK out connection which I connected to the receiver. This vastly simplifies audio connections since all audio sent to the TV can be amplified from a single connection to the receiver. If you can connect everything via HDMI there will be significantly fewer wires and a much more simplified operation.

The only thing I would have preferred is if the base would swivel. I understand the 650 models swivel, can't imagine why Samsung wouldn't include that feature here.

1. LNxxa750 vs LNxxa650

I spent some time drooling over the LN52a650 until I came across LN52a750. I searched and searched to see if there was a performance difference between the two sets. I finally found someone with some knowledge and indeed the 750's use a different (more powerful) internal processor than the a650's. For how incredibly small the price difference is between the 650 and 750 I'm surprised people still shop the 650. Not to mention the regal-looking bezel on the 750, the woofer for those without a home theater system, and some other minor goodies. Bottom line, if you're flip-flopping between the two - stop. Just buy 750.

2. What size? 52, 46, or even 40?

Of course I wanted the largest size I could get. HD is a whole new ball game, and even a 52" model is not as big as it sounds. In fact after having this for a couple weeks now I am beyond relieved I didn't buy a smaller size. (I typically sit about 7 feet from the screen.). Please take my word on this. You will never regret buying too big. Unless you're in a tiny dorm room, the 52" will not overpower you. If you buy a smaller size just be warned you will be longing for the 52 before too long.

3. Samsung or Sony 41 series?

I went to 3 different big box stores to compare side by side. The picture on the 750 just blows away anything else in these stores. It's amazing how two sets with similar specs can have such different displays. The gloss finish just has the colors and contrast jumping off the screen. Sony makes solid products in general, but so does Samsung. It took only a matter of seconds to realize that the Sony 41 series has a boring picture compared to the 750.

4. Plasma or LCD?

With the glossy screen and various black adjustments in the menu, you're getting the best of both worlds with the 750. It has contrast like that of a higher end plasma, but also performs beautifully in a well lit room. Plasmas are just plain dim and dull. With how bright and vivid the 750's screen is, I have not had any issues with reflections. If you look at the models offered by most companies, it's clear that plasma is dying just as DLP is.

5. The "halo effect"

Non-existant. I've watched HD cable, games, and blu-rays in a pitch black room and cannot see the supposed halo that some people are whining about. In fact, I'm almost disappointed because I wanted to see what the hubbub was all about. Apparently Samsung has eliminated this.

6. Amazon or a partner seller?

Local big box stores sell this unit for (including tax) anywhere from $500 - $800+ more. Insane. I knew I'd be ordering it from Amazon. But sometimes the partner sellers are cheaper...what to do. It just so happened that the day I ordered it Amazon had the lowest price. But had they not, I still would have paid the extra small price difference to get it from Amazon. I have no experience with the partner sellers but felt I'd have more recourse with Amazon if a problem occurred.

7. Gaming performance

I also bought a PS3 and Xbox 360 at the same time. Both are stunning, and nope, no input lag on either system using very inexpensive HDMI 1.3 cables. (However, I've read of people's feedback on the a650 where they have experienced lag. This is where the superior processor of the 750 comes in). I've played fast-paced shooters, racing, and adventure games with no lag issues. I may have had a minor lag issue with SOF on the 360 but that could just be the game. Games on the 52a750 will have you hypnotized, especially if it's your first foray into HD.

8. Sound

Could care less. I'm using a home theater system, but with the 750's woofer I'm sure the sound is good/great for a flat panel unit.

9. Light and glare from the glossy finish

Has not been an issue for me. At all.

These are prices from Amazon.com (not their "marketplace partners" or whatever they're called). I'd recommend purchasing from Amazon itself, as they offer the free "white-glove" delivery, which means that the delivery company will bring the TV into your house, unpack it, and haul away the packing materials. My TV was delivered 3 days after I ordered it, and many others who reviewed on this site have had the same experience.
Also, keep in mind Amazon's financing offers if you open an Amazon.com credit account - see below for more details.
Samsung LN37A550: Retail is $1200. I've watched Amazon's price fluctuate between $1040 and $1200. Today the price is $1064, which is as good as I've seen. In addition, Samsung TVs often have financing deals - mine was 1-year, no payments and no-interest financing, and I've also seen 18-month specials.
Sharp LC37D64U: Retail is $1400, and the fact that it was selling for about $1350 a month ago strongly influenced my decision. Today the price is $1016, which may have changed my purchase based solely on the size (Sharp is slightly narrower - see below - and the Samsung is a REALLY tight squeeze in my space). I have not seen ANY financing deals on Sharp TVs through Amazon - pay it all up front.

Contrast Ratio, Response Time, and Frame Refresh Rate
Keep in mind that different manufacturers use different methods to measure these specifications, so they can not be simply compared using numbers. All I can say is that I viewed them in a couple of different retail locations, and there is little difference in picture brightness / blurring between these models. All are capable of 1080p picture.
Samsung: 15,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and 5 ms response time. 60 hZ refresh rate.
Sharp: 10,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and 6 ms response time. 60 hZ refresh rate.
Sony: 25,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and unpublished response time. 120 hZ refresh rate. The refresh rate is where the Sony has an advantage over the others. I'm not going to get into it here, but here's a great article from CircuitCity.com explaining refresh rate in clear, simple terms (http://www.circuitcity.com/rpsm/cat/-12869/edOid/208448/rpem/ccd/lookLearn.do). All I'll say is that, in-store with a BluRay disc, the 120 hZ setting on a 46" screen looked AWESOME. Some have complained that it produces a "soap-opera" effect. Not being a big fan of soap-operas, I have no idea what they are referring to. Personally, I don't think it's enough of a reason to spend the extra $300+, because of screen size. With a bigger 50"+ screen, your eye will catch blurring across the screen, but on a screen of this size I have never noticed any blurring with my 60 hZ model.

High-Def Inputs
These all have the HD connections below, along with Digital Audio outputs, and other (S-video and composite video, and stereo audio) inputs.
Samsung: 3 version 1.3 (latest) HDMI Inputs (2 in rear, 1 on side), 1 USB input (for viewing JPGs and listening to MP3s), 1 PC input, and 2 component video inputs.
Sharp: 2 HDMI Inputs (Amazon and Sharp's website don't say they are version 1.3, which is supposedly faster and therefore better quality), 1 PC input, and 2 component video inputs. Also has side inputs.
Sony: 4 HDMI Inputs (3 in rear, 1 on side; again, Amazon and Sony don't say version 1.3, but I would think it's GOT to be..... don't know why they wouldn't publish this, though), 1 PC input, and 2 component video inputs.

Sound
Most reviews I have read complain about the Samsung's sound quality (most common in complaint is that the speakers sound "tinny"). I turned off the speakers before I ever hooked the TV up to an input (I've got a surround sound system), so I can't speak to this. I bought the TV for the picture, not the sound, but if that's important to you, read other reviews. I've read a couple of complaints about the Sharp model, but they didn't seem quite so angry as the complaints regarding Samsung, so I'm guessing it's acceptable sound.

Size
Size can be a consideration for many in purchasing a TV of this size. I was space constrained only in width. If you've got space constraints and 37" in width, you might also consider the Toshiba REGZA 40RF350U Super Narrow 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Super Narrow Bezel, which measures just 36.77" wide. I have not seen it in action, so I can't speak to it's performance, but other Toshiba LCDs that I HAVE seen did not compare to these 3 TVs in picture quality.
Samsung: 36.1 inches wide and 40 pounds with stand (32 pounds without)
Sharp: 35 and 23/64" wide (yes, some people really squeeze that tight) and 45 pounds with stand (39 without)
Sony: 36.3 inches wide and 47 pounds with stand (40 without)

Additional features:
Each brand offers their own graphics processing engine that claims to be the greatest thing ever, as well as other features. One interesting feature which is really more of a marketing ploy is connecting other devices made by the same brand to this TV and just being able to use the TV's remote to control that device. For example, buy a Sony TV and a Sony Blu-Ray player, and you can control the Blu-Ray player without reprogramming your remote. Good if you don't want to buy a Universal Remote, but I see it more as a way to get you to buy more components from that brand. Your choice!

I received this order very quickly, set it up with an HDMI cable on my 42 inch plasma. First test I did was grab some of my downloaded tv shows in DivX format and load them on a 4GB thumb drive. I plugged the drive into the player, pushed the USB button and it loaded all my DivX files like clockwork. I bought this unit because of the price because my main DVD/DivX player (which is the Pioneer DV-48av)is in my bedroom. This DVD player does an excellent job of up converting standard DVD's and the operation of both the file playing and DVD playing seems to be smooth so far.

Now for the minor flaws.
1) You do have to turn the volume way up. I thought at first it was because I have a noisy heat pump fan (I had just moved here when I got the set). But it's not a major issue for me, and I can use the stereo if need be. I notice it more on DVD's than DirecTv.

note: A reader in the comments section suggested turning off the "AI" feature. If you go into the AUDIO section on the remote menu, you will find several adjustments which helped the sound by 50% on my set.
2) The remote control is not easy to use. The sleep timer only gives you three choices: 30, 60, and 90 minutes. I prefer my old set that went in 10 minute increments up to 2 hours, but again, a minor issue. I normally use my DirecTv remote control to turn it on and off and adjust the sound.
3) It claims to have a feature that helps with motion scenes, but I notice some fast motion scenes are choppy, a problem that plauged earlier LCD sets. It only has 60hz refresh rate. Not a big deal for me.

I decided at that moment that I would replace it with something more modern, and lighter. This 32" tv out of the box looked so much smaller, in height, than the previous one that I was concerned it was too small for my needs, it turns out it wasn't. The picture on the other hand, was absolutely brilliant in HD mode. Rich, vibrant colors that makes my bedroom Element HD TV look poor in comparison. Audio quality is pretty good, very clear. Not very good low frequency sound but very good nonetheless.

the different options available. My requirements were as follows:
1) I wanted a Multi region player since I have discs from India and the US and I also make my own at home.
2) I wanted a USB input on the player and preferably the ability to play DivX files
3) I wanted to have the option to use HDMI at a later stage when I purchase a HDTV

I rejected all the Philips DVP series players because of poor reviews I found in other brand reviews (like for other Pioneer players). Many of them said those didnt last long. I am not fond of SONY because SONY has the reputation of being very selective about what it plays and is very fussy when it comes to slightly damaged discs.

I chose this because most Pioneer players had wonderful (if fewer) reviews and I decided to try it out. It arrived fast and it works great. I have used the standard component cables to connect it to my CRT TV and it works great. The unit is very light and sleek (black) and comes with a component cable and two power cables (one for the US socket and the other for the European I assume). I am yet to try the USB input though. The Dv-420vk is one of the newer Pioneer models compared to the 610 and others. I saw this on the Pioneer website selling for around the same price.

My wife and daughter love to watch Bollywood, German, and videos from the UK. I had purchased a rather complicated system for them to do so about 5 years ago which also played their VHS from other regions. It drove my wife bonkers trying to constantly switch from one device to the other and she finally would only watch those movies when we were all present. We purchased our first HD TV earlier this year and this player with its up-scaling capabilities has made viewing everything in our library a true joy. Just insert any DVD and press play.

Reviews Samsung SyncMaster 2333HD HDTV

The speakers sound like a portable AM radio from the 1960's. Very tinny-sounding. I kid you not. It is not the richer sound of my 19" Samsung LN19A650 (which I recommend, btw.) Why would the speakers be so lame? I had my 19" in the bedroom, this 2333HD in the kitchen, so I even swapped the rooms that they were in, but the tinniness followed the TV. I tried to use the equalizer and beef up the low end, lower the high end, but while it added bass, the tinny sound remained.

Yes, this TV apparently has a multimedia sound. But that means you navigate to the Sound menu to where you select from Standard, Music, Movie, Voice, and Custom. What you find is that Custom and Standard were the best choices only because Music, Movie, Voice were even *more* tinny.

I even thought maybe I would learn to get used to it, because I bought the TV at a good price, and, hey, the large 23" screen is just soooo nice in quality. So, I gave it a chance. I tell you, watching this TV over a period of days gave me a subtle earache, that tinniness again.

I boxed this 2333HD back up and will return it to the store. I just cannot hack that tinny sound. Why oh why would Samsung allow this to happen? So is that why places advertise this as "a monitor with a TV tuner"? Is it the phrase to be wary of?

Update: I just figured out what the sound issue is with this 2333HD. This TV set does not have SRS TruSurround XT like my 19" does. On that TV, I had turned the option ON right away, so had never played it without that option. Until this morning, when I turned the option OFF, and a slightly tinny sound came from the 19", but nowhere as bad as on the 2333HD, but it was there. I turned the option ON again in my 19", and the sound was much better, deeper, absolutely no tinniness to it. So, my lesson is, if the Samsung HDTV does not have the SRS TruSurround XT option, I will not buy it.

One thing to note. Unless you are a magician, be sure to use long needle nose pliers to get the screws started into the stand/base when attaching it to the TV. Very hard to do with just a screw driver.

My only complaint so far is that the sleeper timer does not have a dedicated button on the remote. You have to go into 2 different menu screens to get to it. My way around that was to set each of the 5 timers the TV has so that each one goes off at 11pm Sunday night through Thursday night. This obviously is not an issue if you are using it somewhere other than a bedroom.

The remote is not lit... has no internal light... but I don't think any of them have an internal light..... not a complaint, but the remote has more stuff on it than I will ever use.... I have owned my 42" Plasma Panasonic for over 2 years now and I am very satisfied with it too.... The plasma has a little bit of a better picture, colors are more vivid, than a LCD has but a plasma also cost more money too.... and a plasma weighs more and uses more power than a LCD TV... This TV only comes in glossy black, the frame and base, which looks very nice but shows every speck of dust. I even called Panasonic and complained about that.....for not offering an alternate color like silver or gray.... I think that most all of the other brands, under 42", also come in only glossy black this year..... oh well.... my wife doesn't mind the glossy black..... Last month I purchased the TC-L32X1 for our bedroom and we liked it so well that we bought the TC-L26X1 LCD in the 26' size for the guest bedroom...... this TV also comes with a dock for plugging in your ipod but I'm not into any of that stuff so I can't say how well it works

-The sound is far superior on the LG.

-Black levels are very close, sony's is a bit deeper and maintains black colors better at angles.

-The whiteness of whites is slightly better on the sony, but colors and mid tones definitely have more of a 'punchy' factor on the LG.

-Color is amazing; rich and saturated; best ive seen on any LCD, period.

-Color does not wash out at all from different angles, only very dark colors and black tend to become discolored (blue or red depending on the angle).

-Of course there are far, far fewer picture options on the sony.

-My sony has a ghosting problem with dark colors, not so on the LG; motion blur and lag is also reduced too.

-OTA HD channels look decent enough, not as sharp as the sony, but the better color makes up for it imo.

What was the main factor that made me get this LG?..its S-IPS panel.

Samsung is an excellent maker of lcds, but I steered clear of them this time, as buying a tv from them is like playing the lottery. They use 3 different panels with differing levels of color and contrast quality; you are not essentially getting what you pay for:

You may get Samsung's own S-PVA panel, the best quality (if you're lucky).

An A-MVA panel from Taiwan's AUO (a notch worse than S-PVA).

Chinese company Chi Mei's S-MVA panel (worst of the three).

Panasonics IPS Alpha panels are decent, but on some panels dark colors appear far too blue from different angles.

That narrows it down to LG's S-IPS panel; its color saturation, vividness, and response time are worth the slight sacrifice in contrast and black depth (at least in my opinion).

This tv is not perfect, however; I spotted 3 dead pixels right out of the box (2 bright, 1 dark), right around the middle of the screen. They are practically invisible without being a foot from the screen and looking hard for them, however.

Viewing angles demonstrate some darkening of the picture, but its not too bothersome (swivel stand helps).

No other flaws I can think of at the moment, I recommend this tv!

Pros-

Wifi-- This year Wifi will be all the rage. Set up with my samsung after a slight learning curve took 20 mins tops and once connected it worked flawlessy. I didn't even need to read the manuel. Superb and blazing fast!

Pandora--what a terrific gem of a music program. And its free! The learning curve is super easy and fun. I was able to program it from my mobile phone, and there it is two seconds later. I am a happy camper!

Netflix-- Great. super simple! Netflix needs more choices, but that is not Samsung's fault.

wifi dongle!- They could have charged for this. They didn't. Great!

cons, if it is one--The player feels flimsy upon first contact so that you almost want to be super gentle with it. As opposed to the sturdier players out there. If that concerns you, i suggest you hold a floor model first and decide for yourself. Also, still no hdmi plugs offered with the majority of players, this one included. Makes no sense at this point. Luckily i have spares.

Overall- a solid player, with wonderful audio and visual clarity. My test for blu ray, The Dark Knight. Looked amazing, sound oustanding. Test for upscale, Wall-E. Looked incredible and rich.

UPDATE: Not sure what all the griping is about for a select few, but I watched Punisher Warzone on this player, a hard hitting film if there ever was one and this player did not hiccup. Audio and visual clarity were fantastic!! Also just watched quantum of solace. No issues. A little lag in the load time but I suspect that has to do with the dvd not the player. Sounded and looked great!! Be cautious of those few on here who get one bad lemon and decide the whole basket is rotten.

Three and a half month update: Still no problems to report with this player. I have not had one single issue with any movie I have thrown at it and I have now played over 200 films on it. it's a workhorse. It also plays copies of pretty much any DVD you have burned from a computer hard drive. I'll say it again, great product!

This blu ray player has gone done in price remarkably since it first dropped. It's orginal asking price, for those of you coming to it now, was nearly 400.00 dollars. It is now nearly 50 percent less. This is a real steal folks.

Pros:

1- amazing size to performance ratio. This TV is incredibly thin. You will have to see it to believe it. At just over an inch thick (not to mention 55" from corner to corner), this television boasts some of the best stats available, compared to any other brands/models out there.

2-LED back lighting. This feature is what initially caught my eye. When I first saw it I noticed immediately how incredibly deep the blacks were. This boost in depth of the color plate seems to permeate the entire color spectrum, allowing for deeper, more remarkable fullness when viewing all forms content.

3- base statistics. The contrast ratio (although I have read many conflicting, reports, including the manufactures own specification information, which makes it difficult to place an exact quantitative value), 120hz, 1080p, 4 millisecond response time, USB x2 connections, LAN access, ect... They are all there. This television has the capabilities to seamlessly bind your computer or local area network and your home theater into a truly coherent "media center" provided you have the gumption.

4- "Xbrite" like display. I call it this for lack of a better option. The screen itself of this LCD is not matted like many of its predecessors, it is glossy resembling a plasma TV or some of its smaller LCD PC monitor cousins, which allows it a brighter, fuller color clarity. This could be considered as "bothersome" by some because it allows for more apparent reflections of light, casting it back into the viewers eye, but the shear intensity of light emitted by this TV puts this claim to rest.

There's a lot that's misunderstood about this TV, so rather than the usual Pros and Cons, I'd like to share how I'm getting viewing value from this set.

First, if you're reading this, you're either already an LCD owner or have read about them - and have read about this new breed and if you're like I was, you're wondering what's what.

Color swirls - you never read about this, but if you've watched TV on an LCD set in the past, especially with standard def (SD) stations, you've seen it. The backgrounds look like compressed colors from jpg photo files. My earlier LCD HDTV (8ms response time) had it - this one simply does not. (I did have trouble watching compression artifacts in a movie from 1930 on TCM on this TV - but that movie was so hosed, I can't blame the TV only.)

Contrast - you've read by now that all LCD set makers lie about this. If you're confused and remember the old audio days, that works like this: You'd have a 35 watt RMS/channel amp (into 8 ohms). Some would lie and call it a 70 watt amp. Then lie some more and call it a 140 watt amp (how about 4 ohm speakers?). Then lie some more and refer to peak instead of RMS - and suddenly a 35 watt amp is legally lied about as a 200 watt amp.

Blur/response/lag - LCDs are noted for this weakness. Not this TV. Read on.

Quality of SD programs - some controversy exists. Not a problem on this TV. Read on.

240 Hz AMP - this is the most misunderstood feature I've read about on this TV. Nothing I've read in any review prepared me for what to expect. I was buying the TV partially for this feature, noting that depending upon whom you believe, you turn this feature on, off, on for movies but not sports, on for sports but not movies.

The picture clarity of this tv surpasses other tv's in the same class. I compared it to the Pioneer Kudo series and it puts the Pioneer to shame. Granted I had to shop local stores to compare them before buying from Amazon but the time it took to reasearch this item was worth it in the end.
The Hi Def is outstanding in all aspects I use Directv for my tv broadcasts and their Hi Def feed. I also have a Playstation 3 which is used only for movies and that too was very impressive. This model has a network connection that was easy to setup. I plugged in a network wire from my router to the tv and I was on line. This gives the abilty to have news, weather, stock qoutes, and even YouTube can be accesed directly through the tv. I also found the tv has built in entertainment moduals like recipes, stories and music for small children and exercise workout information.
I also like the fact that the remote lights up makes it very easy to see when the lights are dim in the room. As for contrast I do not think you could ask for better. The blacks are black and not grainy the colors are very true to life right out of the box. Now you may want to tweak the color and tint to your likeing but this is true with al tv's.
The 1080P is a true 1080P unlike some tvs that use a 3:2 pull down, what this means is that it can do 24 FPS and also 60 FPS. Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience. If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.

* Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
* Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

720p vs 1080p:
I couldn't understand why a 1080p TV would make a difference with this size of TV, since I sit about nine feet away and at that distance I don't think you could tell - at least the PC input is small enough and sharp enough that I can read web pages comfortably from my couch but if it were any smaller it would be too small/detailed. I dont think I would use more than 720p detail unless I wanted to see more web page content on the screen and planned to sit about 4 feet away. The TV has exactly the same resolution asToshiba Satellite U305-S2804 13.3-inch Laptop (Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 Processor, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, Vista Premium) which is what I plugged into the PC input and looks identical to that screen. Also, most Hi Def inputs to my TV aren't more than 720p anyway. I think one over the air station is 1080i.

Standard DEF Input Handling:
For 480i or standard def inputs at a non wide screen resolution, such as those from my cable box, it handles it extremely well. However, I have a digital cable box (verizon QIP6416-2) with an HMDI, component, svideo, and RCA even though the signal I get is only standard def. I didn't want to use up an HDMI port on the TV so I tried connecting the component but the color didn't work. This is an issue with the cable box, not the TV. I had to use the HDMI in the end since there was no s-video (a small negative for this TV) and didnt want to use the RCA. On the plus side, this TV has a great setting called wide fit/move that slightly streaches and zooms a 4/3 picture to fit the 16/9 widescreen. The move comes into play if you have channel that has scrolling text that becomes cut off at the bottom, so you can nudge the picture up a bit (which chops off the top more but you need to make a comprimose somewhere).

Shines with HD inputs:
When I hooked the component connections up to an HD upscaling DVD player Samsung DVD-HD860 Up-Converting DVD Playerthough that worked perfectly with the component connection. My beloved Roku Roku Digital Video Player box is using the 2nd HDMI connector which looks great, and the over the air antenna CLEARSTREAM2 Antenna brings in over the air free HD on about 20 HD channels. All the HD sources (laptop, antenna, roku, upscaling DVD) really shine. Sound is good and I don't feel I need to get add on home theater sound since I dont turn the TV up loud. I guess an extra HDMI connection would have been nice, especially since there was no S-video, but I still give the TV 5 stars as it is a new model and is thus forward looking.

Once I got it set-up, I was curious to compare the picture quality of this TV to my existing 46" LCD TV- a Sony KDL-46XBR5 - which I purchased a year and a half ago. This TV was also the highest rated by Consumer Reports in it's screen size among LCD TVs when it came out. As a result, my intent was to compare the 'best of breed' to some degree between LCD TVs and plasma TVs. My expectation was that the plasma picture quality would be as good or better than my LCD TV, based on my research, the Samsung CR rating, and the fact that it was a newer TV.

In doing the comparison, I went straight for the highest quality source- blu-ray discs- and viewed the same blu-ray discs on the same blu-ray player OPPO BDP-83 Blu-ray Disc Player with SACD & DVD-Audio with the same HDMI cable, connecting directly to each TV to eliminate any external factors that could effect the comparison. I compared both older movie blu-ray discs (An American in Paris & Dr. No) and newer blu-ray discs (Da Vinci Code & Planet Earth). Both of the TVs were viewed in dark rooms at night where glare or external lighting factors had no impact on picture quality.

In each of the blu-ray discs I viewed, I found the Sony KDL-46XBR5 LCD TV had better picture quality. The key differential was the near 3D quality of the LCD picture which the plasma was unable to match. You can literally imagine that the action is taking place in the next room with the LCD blu-ray 1080p picture quality. The plasma, with the same 1080p blu-ray source, simply did not provide that level of picture quality. Both have excellent colors, contrast and handle motion pretty well (neither are without some very minor distortion if you look closely) but I found that the clear winner was the LCD TV in terms of picture quality. I say clear winner because the difference was indeed noticable, which going into the comparison I wasn't sure if there would be a noticable picture quality difference between the two TVs.

In terms of technical specifications, it is difficult to compare the two technologies (LCD vs. plasma) and in some ways comparisons can be misleading. For example, the Sony KDL-46XBR5 LCD TV has 120hz motionflow for less distortion in viewing motion, while the Samsung PN50B650 plasma TV has 600hz sub-field motion technology. If you just look at the numbers, and don't factor in the different technologies, you would think the Samsung plasma would handle motion better. That is not the case. I found no noticable difference between the two TVs in this regard. Also, on paper, the contrast ratio of the Samsung plasma is also appears vastly superior (2,000,000:1 vs. 18,000:1) to the Sony LCD- but only on paper, however. I found only a slight edge in contrast in favor of the Samsung plasma while actually viewing the picture quality on each TV. In terms of color, the Sony LCD TV has 10-bit color processing and a 10-bit panel in addition to the 'deep color'and 'x.v.Color' color provided by both TVs. Both have a 'Live Color Creation' technology (Sony) or 'Wide Color Enhancer3' (Samsung) that seem to be proprietary names for the same WCG-CCFL color technology. In any case, I didn't notice any color difference in comparing picture quality between the two TVs. Each have their proprietary processing engines that perhaps make a difference in picture quality, but again it is far from certain which technical specification or set of specifications will result in overall better picture quality. I would use technical specifications to compare one specific area only (i.e. motion, contrast, color, etc.) on LIKE technologies (comparing one LCD to another or one plasma to another). In comparing a plasma to an LCD, the technical specifications don't have any predictive value, in my experience, in pre-determining which TV has better picture quality- although they can help narrow the field to some degree.

As expected, the price of HDTVs has dropped in connection with the decrease in manufacturing costs. Though this is a great thing for the consumer, the market has become flooded such that it is difficult to find a great product at a reasonable price. Fear not, savvy consumer! This television is an excellent choice at an excellent price. It is very lightweight, has excellent picture quality, and great sound production from its native speakers. I use it with my Xbox 360 and have had no major complaints with it. It is even small enough to fit in my small dorm room with no major issue. I would highly recommend this product for its sheer simplicity, light weight, relatively small size, great price, excellent picture quality, and connectivity (it is able to connect to headphones or computer speakers for improved sound quality or silent listening, which is great when you have a roommate). A great product and a must buy for those interested in a small television that will fit in a small room and be easy to transport.

The TV not having 1080P output isn't much of a con... most TVs this size do not offer that, and when they "do" it is usually just a downscaling of 1080P signal to the screen rather than truly displaying it. 720P and 1080i look pretty darn slick compared to a CRT analogue TV, let me tell you! Again, the PS3 looks awesome.

So far so good. I was seriously confused between 46b650 and 46b630 and I am very happy that I got 630. Since my room has good ambient light, I was looking for anti glare screen and 630 is a perfect fit. 650 is too glossy for my setting, it is very good for dark room setting but otherwise glare could be very annoying. Yes, 630 has 80000:1 vs 100000:1 for 650 and I did notice the slight difference in contrast. I am yet to tweak picture settings. I got this from Vanns for $1530, got it in 5 days with free shipping and free wall mount.

This is a nice set for a small area, such as a kitchen or bath, or small bedroom. Picture appears excellent, depending on the source channel. It auto-tuned all of the analog & digital channels from Comcast, and filtered out the scrambled (premium) channels. The set displays guide information (channel name, program) for many of the digital channels, but not the analog channels. The included stand can be rotated to 90 degrees and used as a wall mount, or a standard VESA mount (separately purchased) may be used. Changes channels quite fast.

The biggest annoyance is the relatively tinny sound, followed by the 9-10 second power-on time. There's a fair bit of tweaking room on the sound menu, but the low end isn't quite as full as one would like for a set listened to from a distance. The sound weakness was the main factor in dropping my rating to 4 stars.

Set up was fast and easy. When you turn it on, the TV automatically scans for available channels. The sharp, bright display impressed me, as well as the multitude of options to adjust color, brightess, backlighting, skin tone, and many more image and sound adjustment features.

The picture is gorgeous out of my PC to the TV using a DVI to HDMI converter. Playing DVDs at 1080p is an amazing experience for me who is stepping up from a 27inch 720p set. There are loads of inputs to connect all your old equipment like a PS2 etc. You can send the audio out of the TV to your receiver using a single optical cable and this makes the clutter much less behind the receiver. The auto highlighting of the active inputs present on the TV makes it easy to know if the equipment you have connected is working or not.

The touch of color is an ok feature..just makes the TV look good and most of the times you need good lighting behind the TV to actually see the red color on the edges.

Is 120Hz worth it? Well right now it is not for the extra 200-300$ per set. I was thinking of getting the Sony Bravia with 120HZ but when I viewed the screen between these two i could not tell the difference.
Films and games mostly are shot/produced at 24-30 frames/sec...since this set has twice the sampling 60hz you should expect a pretty smooth frame rate and should not have any motion lag. 120hz samples at 4 times and will make it look even smoother..but you would need a giant screen to note the difference.

I do not control everything in my room because it uses primarily to relax, to read and sleep. conctrast The Samsung is good with good sharpness and color. The only game the better the Sony is 26 "for about $ 100 more. Magnify Samsung LCD TV and I like the digital brand management. I use a UHF / VHF antenna on the roof and, with the Samsung ATSC tuner for over 26 local television stations. You can then use the NTSC channel 3, I used to watch different channels on my Dish Network satellite receiver and the Samsung delivered via a modulator NTSC.

Amazon has kidnapped me an update "by a navigational error by the LN22A450. Series 4 is better than the 3-series, but the Serie A is older than the Serie B. They were willing to hold me, but after some research I discovered that the technology has moved forward since it was made. Among other things, only had a contrast ratio of 3000:1, that the person has 15,000:1. Today there is hardly any difference between the number of mass spun by the producers when it is in a calibration of high-tech, but if you are so low, this is not a good thing. Then swap over, but I have LN22B360.

The price has fallen HDTV associated with lower production costs. While this is a good thing for the consumer market is now flooded, making it difficult to find a great product at a reasonable price. Fear not, informed consumers! Television is an excellent choice for a good price. E 'light, has an excellent image quality, and production of the unusual sound of his mother tongue. I with my Xbox 360 and have had no major complaints. It is also small enough to fit in my small dorm room fit without major problems. I recommend this book for its simplicity and pure, light and relatively small, great prices, excellent picture quality and connectivity (you can connect to headphones or speakers to your computer for better sound or listen to the silence, which is great if you have a roommates).

There are many complaints about the power of sound, and I agree with them. However, it is difficult to understand why someone is a 22 "TV purchase would expect, and any that have spikes, like broken glass, a medium that moves the air is chill and heavy walls!? For a TV this size speakers work very well and if I wanted, beef and fiber optic audio jack on the back would work well to connect a stereo or home theater connection.

I recommend this TV for bedrooms and kitchens. The size, quality of picture and sound are ideal for smaller and more intimate spaces. It offers a power / DVI using the computer as a computer monitor, 1 HDMI, 2 component (R, G, B), 1 composite, 1 RF, a headphone jack. In addition, less than $ 300 does not hurt!

This was my first and my first Samsung LCD TV than I had before it a 32 inch Toshiba Regza. I actually stopped everything to the Toshiba Regza 46-inch with ClearScan 240th But I could not take my eyes from the Samsung to a Big Box store above all. After spending too much time on research and observation of these TVs in stores, I finally bought this set on Amazon and could not be happier.
